What it does

How to install

  1. Mac: open the downloaded .dmg and drag KathaCut to Applications. The first time, right-click the app and choose Open, then Open again. macOS shows a warning because the app is not signed with an Apple developer certificate.
  2. Windows: run the installer. If SmartScreen says it protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway. The warning appears because the installer is not code-signed.
  3. In the app, choose File, then New Project, pick a folder, and pick your narration audio. To continue earlier work, choose Open Project.

Privacy

KathaCut works offline. It has no accounts, analytics or ads, and your audio, images and videos stay in the project folder you choose.

Third-party software

KathaCut includes FFmpeg, a separate program it runs to mix audio and encode video. This build of FFmpeg is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3 or later. Its source code is available from ffmpeg.org, and the build used here comes from the ffmpeg-static project. The licence texts are in the installed app, in the ffmpeg-static folder under its unpacked resources.

Captions use the Noto Sans Devanagari font (SIL Open Font Licence 1.1). The app runs on Electron (MIT licence) and includes its Chromium components.
